Week three of teaching 5th grade (I’m only in for one hour a week) . I had to have a very big speech about why I’m there, what respect is, and for the love of the gods please stop putting paper in the heat lamp. Suffice to say, I am not meant for this. Only... nine weeks to go!

Godspeed man. I can’t imagine they’re worse than we were, but credit to anyone who accepts the challenge of corralling that much energy into a single building, especially while maintaining any modicum of sanity or decorum.

So... whhh y are you there, and what boundary did the previous teacher cross with one too many appendages ?

The day after Halloween probably adds to it. I couldn’t be there full time.

I’m teaching a decision making model and talking with the kids about drugs, alcohol, tobacco, gangs, et cetera. Working through scenarios, talking about effects and consequences, having them discuss positives and negatives to all their decisions. It’s going as good as it can be.

I believe it. They’re hopped up on all of that sugar and JUUL. It can’t be an easy nor relaxing gig.

Ah, I expected something more salacious for some reason. So they’re not just hauling that group of kids over to the prison so the inmates can scare the crap out of them anymore? Or is this mainstream curriculum now? Sounds pretty progressive! Hopefully it makes an impact.

My wife is teaching US history 9 th grade inner city kids. Yeah she drinks a little too much sometimes but when it’s a good day which isn’t often she gets more job satisfaction than I’ll get all year.

There's no way I'd do it. YIKES

Not mainstream curriculum, I just offered the program and the school were 100% onboard. Scared straight doesn’t work, DARE doesn’t work, so we’re giving it a shot with this. I hope it works out, too. They’re good kids, and I never want them to get into trouble with the law.

That’s pretty awesome. I hope it pays dividends on their end.

I just left grade-8 remedial reading classes because the students are so nasty.

When I was in 3rd grade a DARE police officer told my class that PCP makes people think they're Superman. Naturally, we all wanted to try PCP after that.

Yup...some days are...better than others. I had a very pleasant sub day yesterday, but some are...well, I don’t drink, but lets just say I feel like starting when I get home, lol.

That being said, when you see one kid finally ‘get it’ when you’re teaching something new, it’s worth it.
